Built iOS foundations at Orange Egypt

My Orange Egypt internship was an early opportunity to see how iOS development works in a professional setting. It introduced me to a community of people with different perspectives while giving me hands-on practice with the skills I wanted to develop beyond the classroom.

Over four weeks in September 2022, I worked in the Digital Services and Transformation Department, building a stronger foundation in Swift and in the data flows behind mobile applications.

Putting Swift into practice

The internship turned iOS concepts into practical exercises. I used Swift to work with structured data, understand how an app communicates with a server, and make the relationships between objects easier to manage.

The curriculum began with variables, simple data types, and string interpolation, then moved into arrays, dictionaries, sets, and enums. From there, I worked through operators and conditions before spending time on loops—loops, and more loops—to turn those foundations into practical programs.

The next part covered functions, parameters, and errors, followed by closures in two stages. I then learned how structs bring together properties and methods, how access control, static properties, and laziness affect an app's design, and how classes and inheritance extend those ideas.

The program concluded with protocols, extensions, and protocol extensions, then optionals, unwrapping, and typecasting—tools that made it easier to write clearer, safer Swift code when handling uncertain data and flexible types.

• Implemented exercises using Automatic Reference Counting (ARC).
• Fetched server data through APIs and brought it into an iOS application.
• Used protocols and delegates to help objects communicate clearly and flexibly.

A stronger start in iOS

More than a technical introduction, the experience gave me a clearer sense of the iOS development industry and the kind of work I wanted to pursue after graduation. It gave me both useful tools and the confidence to keep building.
